BISHOP BOB ALONGE, HIS SERMON NOTE AND THE OTHER BOAT!!! Several years ago while I had the privilege to pastor in ife, I met Bishop Bob Alonge , he came for our annual conference called AGAPE. There are several events of that night that words will fail me to describe. It’s still one night that changed something in me forever. The message was so simple that I could literarily preach it again even though it’s over a decade. The message was THE WISDOM OF THE OTHER BOAT!
After that message I knew I wanted to be an Assistant Pastor for the rest of my life except God had other plans, funny that till now when I see assistant pastors doing their job, I feel like they stole my dream. ?. He made me see, the needless effort of trying to be number one. Some things are simply by divine grace of election. It wasn’t Peter that begged Jesus to use his boat. Jesus just chose his boat to preach. Find someone whom God is lifting and add your hand to lift them up. You may not always be the one God will choose to do extra ordinary things in your generation but if you find that person… let them not lack your help. Let envy die. I started looking around me and I still do so till now. If I sense the hand of God around you, then I am going to bring mine to join and lift you too. Never bicker about a man God is using. In that person’s lifting is the lifting of several others.
Rev Bob taught me that.
But perhaps the most EVENTFUL part of that evening was when we were with him in his hotel and then he GAVE ME HIS SERMON NOTE. I almost fainted. It really doesn’t matter how many people alive have that note but mine was different from all yours ? I sincerely kept that message print out with everything in me until…sobsssss!!!???. But thankfully I have it memorized. Yes memorized!!! Thank you Sir. I just want you to know I am grateful for what you did for us back in the days Sir. We love you eternally Sir. I am a man touched by your ministry.
DEAR STARTER: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREACHING IN YOUR LOCAL ASSEMBLY AND ANOTHER MAN’S CHURCH!!!
Truth is there are 4 main streams that any teacher or preacher of God’s word can approach his message from
1 Corinthians 14:6
Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
The word used as “SPEAK” in the above verse should actually read PREACH. If you have a good concordance, try to check. Secondly the context of use transcends speaking as in conversation but rather talking to a congregation.
It lists 4 main streams to us 1) Revelation 2) Prophetic 3) Knowledge 4) Doctrine
Time and space will not permit me to explain the 4, so let me just mention 2.
Truth is, I often teach differently in the church I pastor compared to ministering outside. WHY?
Well my work as the Pastor of my local assembly is chiefly to establish the people in the understanding of God’s word through doctrinal teaching and secondly meet their needs through God’s word by a prophetic approach. So I spend more time on doctrine even in the simplest form but I don’t follow that pattern when ministering outside. It’s the work of the Pastor in charge of that house to establish the people doctrinally. I focus more on Prophetic stream and the Revelational stream these two are design to meet needs more than establish a new thought.
You have 3 sessions and you want to start a doctrinal teaching? How? You may leave the people more confused really. Also your host might have taught the people differently. So there is no need to confuse the church. Lastly in conferences as people prepare, their expectations are more towards God sending a word to meet their need that coming to a seminary to learn theology.
What you should seek shouldn’t be “whaooo what a deep external preacher but rather…. whaoooo what a man sent from heaven”
Just a little counsel jare. I hope it helps.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DAD
……Iku (Death) moved back and joined his friends. Baba finally hit the ground as though an Iroko had fallen. The songs ceased. We were all mute but expectant. We hoped against all hope. But Baba didn’t move. Iku watched and waited to be announced the winner.
The village priest stepped forward and held Baba’s motionless body in his arms and began to appeal the gods.
Omo owo eku loju Owo
Omo ese eku loju ese
Eyi awi fun ogbo logbo gbo
Eyi awi fun ogba logba gba…..
After several moments of chanting and appeasing the gods, the priest finally let the body lie. Olododo, the proclaimer of truth walked forward to announce the obvious winner. Iku was smiling, Erujeje( Fear) was mocking, and Esulaalu(Satan) was sneering, all expecting the final moment of their seemingly glory,
But to the utmost chagrin of the trio and to the utmost amazement of the villagers, Olododo proclaimed Baba the winner even in death. For today he said, a mortal fought a spirit and fearlessly so too. The aged fought the ageless. The transient accepted the challenge of the inevitable. And with these words, the trio walked away defeated.
Koloruko walked towards baba’s body and these words he spoke:
Slowly the muddy pool becomes a river
Gently Baba’s mysterious strength lies to rest
When the wood breaks, it can be mended
But ivory breaks forever
An egg falls to reveal a secret
But Baba’s will go unfold
He has gone far
We look for him in vain
Oh young hunters! When you see the kob antelope on the way to the farm;
When you see the kob antelope on the way to the river –
Leave your arrows in the quiver,
And let the dead depart in peace!
Baba’s body was picked up by the youth as the women began to eulogize him.
I turned to follow but that was the last I saw of the great warrior! For on this fateful day, I became fatherless.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DAD
ADEMOLA AKANBI AREO.
We miss you so much…you and your unusual strength. There were times I wondered if you were mortal but when you died I had to accept the truth of your mortality.
MY FATHER, A PRICELESS GIFT FROM GOD!
Thank God for the life you lived, your sojourn on this earth.
I can NEVER forget your teachings, instructions and wisdom.
Learnt so many things from you and I am still learning from your the lifestyle.
You led by example and taught me to:
*Be caring, kind and generous to all without discrimination.
*Be humble, simple and contented as a pathway to greatness.
*Respect other people’s opinions, time, schedule and decisions without controlling or disturbing them.
*Love all especially the family and I later learnt that a man whose family does not feel his positive impact, and who is not happy with his family can never be a real man. You were real.
*Be serious, principled, blunt, charismatic and very diligent.
*Think, project, plan and execute everything well without missing out on anything.
*Do home chores. You gave me education, however, my upbringing and home training makes me a better educated man. There is nothing you couldn’t do domestically.
*Be happy as a result of your entertaining lifestyle and strong sense of humour.
*Keep my plans to myself and God taught me to pray through on the plans being kept until I have a release in my spirit to unveil them.
*Fight and care for people especially family first before my self, you were so selfless.
*Resolve conflict with wisdom without taking side but rebuke to embrace.
*Be prudent, straightforward, friendly and to have integrity.
And lots more. You beat the hell out of me and unknown to you beat the heaven into me. Your rod and staff also known as canes and cokes comforted me and changed my life.
You allowed me to do ministry early by declining an offer to work with an oil company which you were so much aware of but you believed that I should follow the leading of God which I believed you didn’t really know much about.
My greatest testimony of you is that God gave me a natural life through you and through me gave you a supernatural life which is the best of all gifts I gave you.
I thank God for you Dad.
I will surely miss you Dad!
I love and celebrate you Dad.
Joy of the Holy Spirit always!
Joy! Joy overflow and joy forever!!
Happy New Month!
We thank God for January and in anticipation for february blessings and productivity!
I pray for that you are filled of and enabled by the Holy Spirit to be sold out for the gospel of Christ and to birth that which is in you for your generation in Jesus name.
I pray the eyes of your spirits are enlightened to know God’s word and experience His grace.
You are so much full of hunger and thirst for His word and Spirit that you are intoxicated with God to know Him more and fulfil His purpose for you in Jesus name.
I cast out demons of oppressions, hardship, sickness, lack, distractions, depression and so on from you and our midst in Jesus name.
As you fellowship with God, laying aside weights and sins that easily ensnare us, looking onto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, feasting on His word, your mind is renewed, you are transformed and you enjoy His provisions in Jesus name.
This month, I will be running a special LALP-Living A Life of Profits series…as impressed on my heart beginning from this Sunday by the Holy Spirit.
Happy New Month!
All the roads we walk prepare us for something ahead.
Sometimes though we are simply thrust onto the scene without any prior preparations. And at those epoch moments it is either swim or drown.
The last 4 weeks at work = simply crazy. I have had to step up 2 levels above my pay grade.
It is like I recently assumed a new role in a new company. And I dare say my head is held high.
Growth comes with its demands on the body, mind and life. Something just has to give. But it helps if you already defined your untouchables ahead of time.
In the past weeks, I see myself waking up sometime in the night. I had fallen asleep without knowing it.
I love the visibility though. And the fact that my head is bursting her seams.
I miss that I can’t even write at this time. It is therapy.
Yesterday it hit me that I have subconsciously been borrowing from my experiences at single parenting to surf this wave.
Surely, raising a child alone pales every other thing into child’s play.
Same yesterday, I realised I would drown if I didn’t carve out time for even one of my therapies masked as indulgences: exercising, writing, reading, meditation etc
Then I reminded myself that I am zinariya. Gold weathers the fire to earn her bragging rights.
This morning I woke up and hit the mat straight to work up some sweet sweat.
Sitting in this vehicle heading to a vendor’s facility has afforded me the privilege to write this.
This kirikiri traffic got nothing on me because I am tucking right into my book now.
Here is to an awesome weekend ahead!! Find time to do what rocks your boat in the midst of making a living.
The face you make when you begin to feel working in this kinda chaos is preferable to your Air conditioned setting.
What is with me and Logistics even?
I come alive when it has to do with coordinating, organising, sorting things, getting results and seeing people smile. Maybe because I like getting my hands dirty and restoring order.
And the beauty of my work is the dynamism.
Today, I met Iyke and Grace in this Cargo facility at the airport. I had no idea this place even existed until I came to ship something to Kano now.
I like the chaos. A fully purpose built facility bustling with activities and people from all walks.
What you don’t know you don’t know.
Congratulations to all my team members Emem-Obong Ankoh, Ade Nike, Omotunde Akiode, Eyenike Roseline, Waziri Junior Ibn Waziri, Adegoke Oluwabukola Mary, Benedict Dayas Toks, Engr Stephen Wonder and others who ran today’s marathon in different categories: 10km, 21km and 42km.
Thumbs up to those already heading to Ile Ife for tomorrow’s marathon
It takes only another insane person person to understand why you would choose to pound the pavements when nothing is chasing you.
Happy birthday #roseline As you bring joy to others, may this year be your best ever.
And in other news, as per that my opportunity cost, Yellow House won at the Schools Inter House Sports.
IBEJU LEKKI IS TOO FAR WHY SHOULD I BUY LAND THERE?
Someone once asked me why should I buy land in IBEJU-LEKKI, it’s too far, and I can’t even do anything on it now.
