THE SUSPENSION OF CJN: THE NBA, THE NJC AND THE JUDICIARY: A FEW GOOD MEN. PROF. S. A. ZURU
With profound reminiscence, when in 1992 Aaron Sorkin set out do the film ” A Few Good Men ” it was not his imagination that it will become the Metaphor of a Country ‘s Judiciary and it’s coterie of pseudo anarchists and Justice traders. It is a tragedy of fate that a profession that produced the likes of; Rotimi William, Richard Akinjide, Justices Aguda, Oputa, Bello, Nasir, Eso, Agu could suddenly become a caricature and a turf for disgust. In a terrible consign to indignity, the judiciary has been desecrated by greed of the Bar and the Bench who are now the cheer leaders of official corruption in Nigeria. Through pervasive activities of this quango institutions of Justice and their cronies the Country had watched with defeatist helplessness the systematic peripherization of the moral integrity of the Bench and the conscience of Justice. The sun has set on the judiciary if a sitting CJN who knew that he has fallen short of the basic decorum and integrity required by his office could ignore a simple procedural Court summon in a desperate bid to shield himself from the long arms of Justice and was cheered on by a select despicable gentlemen of the Bar. It is laughable that NBA which has all along behaved like the nPDP could turn around and declare gov’t ‘s recue action unconstitutional, just if I may, what is the constitutionality of graft?
If you and the inconsequential NJC think Nigerians are still stupid, you have miscalculated, gov’t was right and the current intervention must go further enough to restore sanity to the judiciary. The truth is, gov’t acted wisely and timely to destroy the plot by the cash and carry elite league of lawyers to give the CJN a golden parachute. Therefore, taking a dispassionate review of development so far, thank you Mr President for the courage and honesty of purpose, if not now when? if not here then where? Finally, for the NBA, NJC and the Judiciary, indeed a few good men and like the lead actor in the film Jack Nicholson declared, I will also charge that…” you can’t handle the truth “
