Culture toxic to purpose
The biggest mistake most CEO’s and managers make is to put profit above everything else. They forget about the employees and their desires. As much as people come to work to support themselves and their families financially, they also come to support themselves spiritually. Everyone wants to make an impact and to contribute to the betterment of humanity.
I coach many people who are great people and want to make an impact but they find themselves choked by the culture and selfishness of the leaders who only care about the money.
Here are the red flags to see if you are a toxic leader;
1. Employees are miserable and actively disengaged when you are not in the office.
They spend so much time on social media talking to friends and laughing at jokes or videos on YouTube because working for you suck the life out of them. They might even have multiple accounts incase you are monitoring them.
2. They are not excited to work for you and they never tell their families and friends how great you are as a leader.
Even though you might say you don’t care. But people talk and share about the people that make them feel good. Everyone talks about their favourite teacher, even though he/she taught with an iron fist. People love and talk about the people who bring the best out of them.
